Seeing God.... Beyond the Lies

These three poems mean alot to me. They are by Meister Eckhart (1260-1328), and are part of the treasure he left behind. Perhaps he can help us see our Lord more clearly, beyond the lies we are told and have believed about Him....

It is a Lie

It is a lie - any talk of God
that does not
comfort
you.

He Told Me a Joke

My Lord told me a joke.
And seeing Him laugh has done more for me
than any scripture I will
ever read.

An Image That Makes Them Sad

How long will grown men and women in this world
keep drawing in their coloring books
an image of God that
makes them
sad?

May we see Him more clearly, love Him more truly, experience Him more deeply....

and ENJOY HIM ENJOYING US...

I've not commented much lately, but I've read your blog faithfully, and it is balm to this soul in the midst of massive change as we prepare to rediscover a new purpose and a fresh concept of what God expects of us. Thank you for your prayers, Jeff.

Margy - Good to see you here again! Dave has been keeping me up to date on you guys, and I am so sorry for all the ugliness that sometimes comes out of people. You guys hang in there and know that we love you both. Maybe we can get together sometime this weekend.

Queen - HA! I really enjoyed leaving that post! Tell your husband daily how lucky he is, and then tell him how lucky you are... and God bless you both!

Kim - That is my favorite as well. So simple, so true...

Heidi - I think a lie can bring us the most harm. If we are hurt, we know it, but if we are deceived, we don't, and we make decisions based on the lie...

Thanks, all, for your comments...

HO - Never heard of Piper or Christian Hedenism - but then, not much into labels, so help me out - what is it?

HO - by the way, you must not have grown up in a "worm theology" environment - you know, "you are a low down, dirty, rotten sinner... saved by grace", which isn't biblical at all... with a heavy-handed God just waiting to get you or punish you or who didn't care, or some such other nonsense...

I decided some time ago to only see God through what I have personally seen of Him, through His Word and His Hand in my life. Anything else is pretty much hearsay.

I would do the same with any friend, and He is more special and intimate to me than any friend. I think He often gets a bum rap from religious folk, who attempt to represent Him in one way or another, or try to put Him in their "god box"... with walls and limitations, attempting to frame Him as one thing or another, accepting one group or another, etc.

At least, that's my humble opinion... not that I expect it to mean anything to anyone else. He (God) is the KINDEST PERSON I have EVER KNOWN.

Didn't grow up with any theology. God became real to me when i was 22. i do KNOW that i AM a sinner saved by God's grace. that really i have blown it and do blow it and there is no way that i can get it right and measure up. (and i know that i was created in His image) the only thing i can do is cling to what Jesus Christ had done for me on the cross.. "he canceled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ's cross." That's Colossians 2:14.
Also, I'm not sure I can be comfortable calling God a person but I can say that He IS kindness. Not niceness. Kindness. Even when things happen at His hand that we don't consider loving and nice, because He has done it, it is the best thing, therefore, it is kind.
So I don't know how this fits into worm theology.
Thoughts?

Heidi - Thanks very much. We did have an event last night and today, so we are still playing with the dosing and timing to try to find what works best...

H.O. - You can believe you are a sinner saved by grace if you like. The Bible tells me that I am the Righteousness of God, and that I am a saint, and a new creation, and "all things have passed away; behold, all things are new".

The person who had my name and address prior to coming into a saving knowledge and relationship with Christ DIED, and was buried with Christ, and resurrected to a new life, as a new creation. That guy was a sinner, but according to Romans chapters 6-8, no longer lives, so the law has no hold over him any longer.

The living person I am is a new creation. I am righteous (in right standing with God) NOT through anything I have done, but because HE, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, put the rightousness of Christ on me.

If you get it, you get it. If not, it's cool. Love you either way...

"and that's all I have to say about that...", Tom Hanks, as Forrest Gump...
